Dear Camp Staff Alum,

Keep up to date on Camp Staff Alumni news.  Please forward this email to fellow former staffers who would like to subscribe.  In this email, you will find some great opportunities to help give back to Boston Minuteman Council scouting and the camp programs that influenced so many, by supporting programs that currently benefit knowledge and leadership skills among hundreds of scouts.

Alumni: Get Ready for a Day of Service

Mark your calendars and come to camp on Saturday June 28.  Alumni will be helping to prepare camp sites for camp opening.  This is a day of service by camp staff alumni, and all former staff members are encouraged to participate.

We need volunteers to help the camp and 2014 staff get off to a good start by making sure that camp sites look sharp and are ready for the first troops, parents, and scoutmasters.

Try to arrive at 8:30 AM or soon thereafter; we’ll meet at the dining hall.  Bring work gloves.  If you have hand saws or chain saws, please bring them in case there is downed timber to be cleared.  Levels, battery-powered drills, and hammers will be helpful for leveling and repairing tent platforms.  We’ll have crews working until 5 PM, and you can stay overnight if desired.

Please call or email Nick Cortese for details if you can attend:  ncortese@comcast.net or 617-733-9031.  We need volunteers – and this is a good way to get some outdoor exercise, see old friends, and contribute once again.  See you there!

Camp Staff Alumnus Elected Chairman of BSA Chief Scout Advisory Board

Chuck Eaton, Scout Executive for Boston Minuteman Council, was elected Chairman of the Chief Scout Executive Advisory Board at the recent BSA National Annual Meeting in Nashville.

Chuck served for the past year on this Board, a group of twelve Scout Executives who periodically provide advice and counsel to the national Chief Scout Executive, Wayne Brock, on important matters and how they impact members, units, and councils around the country.  It’s a pretty select group.

This is quite an honor and an indication of the credibility and “voice” that Chuck has developed nationally.  Chuck is a distinguished alumnus of the Storer Reservation camp staff from the 1980s.

Save the Date!

Another reminder — mark your calendar for the weekend of August 2.  That’s the weekend for the annual Camp Staff Alumni Reunion.

Former camp staff who served at any scout camp are welcome and encouraged to attend this day of exploring Storer Reservation in Barnstead, New Hampshire.  Enjoy the program areas throughout the day and share stories and memories.  Participate in the lobster/steak banquet highlighting alumni and the current camp staff, and consider staying for the annual campfire Saturday evening.  In fact, bring your families and stay overnight if desired.  Start reminding those who served with you to Save the Date.

More information will follow in early July on the Staff Reunion.  If you have questions, contact Tony Morganelli at  tonymorganelli@comcast.net or 781-223-5999.

T. L. Storer Scout Reservation

Barnstead, New Hampshire

The concept of a Camp Staff Alumni Association began late summer 2007 and, since that time, more than 200 alumni have joined the Association. The beginning years involved defining the organization, establishing roles and responsibilities, having successful projects and reunions, and setting up the website and financial management. Most importantly, it involved building a positive and credible relationship with Boston Minuteman Council and the current camp staff. Together, we did it!

Please do not hesitate to contact a Board member to share ideas and suggestions, volunteer, or make a donation.
Board members include Bruce Colvin (chairman), Nick Cortese (Council interface), Dom Ilacqua (membership), John Collins (Website), Lee Vergnani (Treasurer), Tony Morganelli (Reunion Committee), Greg Boyd (Projects).  Board members also include the alumni Scoutmaster representing each decade, and volunteers for that role are needed. See the alumni website for details.

Have you visited our website at:  www.bmccampstaffalumni.org

Get involved in some way. Think about the Alumni Association motto:

“We will give back to camp more than camp gave to us.”
